Therapy rooted in presence, connection, and creativity.
Hi! I’m Theresa.
I'm so glad you're here.
I'm a Clinical Mental Health Counselor, Expressive Arts Therapist, Emergency Department nurse, and lifelong creative. I have the privilege of walking alongside people through some of life's most difficult, meaningful, and transformative moments.
Whether you're feeling overwhelmed, navigating a major life transition, carrying the weight of past experiences, or simply looking for a place to better understand yourself, you don't have to do it alone.
My hope is to offer a space where you can pause, be yourself, and feel genuinely supported as we explore whatever has brought you here.
Why Zaagi?
Zaagi is derived from the Ojibwa (Anishinaabe) word root for love.
As a member of the Red Lake Band of Chippewa Indians, I chose this name to honor and connect to my grandmothers.
Author and activist bell hooks wrote:
“Love is as love does. Love is an act of will—namely, both an intention and an action. Will also implies choice. We do not have to love. We choose to love.”
To me, love means choosing to show up and meet ourselves, others, and the natural world with compassion, curiosity, and respect. Through kindness and love we can make space for authenticity, trust, and connection — and ultimately healing.
These are the values that guide my life and my work as a therapist.
My hope is that everyone who comes to Zaagi Creative Therapy experiences that same spirit of care and connection—a place where they feel safe to explore their own story, reconnect with their strengths, and move toward meaningful change.
Ways we can work together:
-
Compassionate therapy for adolescents and adults navigating anxiety, trauma, grief, life transitions, relationship challenges, identity exploration, and personal growth.
-
Creative approaches such as art, writing, guided imagery, and other expressive practices may be integrated to support healing, self-discovery, and deeper exploration. No artistic experience is required.
-
A gentle, evidence-based approach that helps the brain process difficult experiences, supporting healing, resilience, and emotional well-being.
